The Alton Redbird Hockey Club is a high school ice hockey team that plays in the Mississippi Valley Club Hockey Association league.  The team proudly wears the name of Alton High School, and consists of students from Alton High School and Marquette Catholic High School, both of which are located in Alton and Godfrey, Illinois.  However, the team is not a "school sport."  Instead it is a "club sport" that is self-funded.  The Redbird's home rink is the East Alton Ice Arena, which is located in East Alton, Illinois.  During the 2016-2017 season the Redbirds fielded two teams: a junior varsity team and a varsity team.  The high school winter season begins in November, with playoffs taking place in February.
